Three days in Mumbai

If you've been following my life, you'll know that I am in Mumbai on leave for this week. Contrary to being on vacation, the visit to Mumbai can be exhausting. This time though, it is definitely not that exhausting as when I am at work.

I reached Mumbai on Monday and Marise came over in the evening for dinner. A little before that Sneha had com eover to say hi. I dropped Marise to the rickshaw after dinner.

Marise came over again on Tuesday morning before work. In the afternoon, I went over to my Grandma's place in Bandra. As usual she did her best to feed me

I had plans to meet Cloreisha after this. We met up at the new Cafe Coffee Day on the fourth floor of the Reliance Trendz store in Hill Road. This one is rather nicely done. Very spacious and quiet. Again, it is new so I wonder how long this will be maintained.

After having met her, I went over to Sneha's place to meet Arijit and Sneha. Sneha has taken a place in Saki Naka, near her office. I'm surprised at the huge number of buildings that have come up in that area!

Yesterday was a relatively quieter day. I spent most of the time at home deep in slumber. Met up with Marise, Ruth and Sheldon for dinner at 5 Spice. Finally, good Chinese food!

This evening also promises to be a meet friends day. Most stories in the next post.

Icons for Ajax Edit Comments

I've got tonnes of feedback about Ajax Edit Comments and several of these are requests for new icons that the plugin uses. I'm thinking along the lines of having different sets of icons and so this email goes out to everyone asking for recommendations on what icons I should use for the plugin.

If you're interested in knowing what the icons are required, check the images folder of the plugin. I'm planning at least two sets of icons for the plugin, so please give me as many suggestions as possible so that I can select accordingly.

Remember that the icons need to be GPL or royalty free. I cannot use paid icons for the plugin.

Two weeks back

I am getting to know Bangalore, or so I try to make myself believe. However, except for a few instances, I haven't seen much of it. I did get a good glimpse of the city three weeks back.

Two weeks back, I attended a Corporate etiquette seminar that was held in the Taj Westend and conducted by Princeton Academy. The seminar covered a whole range of topics including how to eat, how to walk, how to dress and how to talk etc.

The seminar was all day long after which I stopped off at Aishwarya in Koramangala 1st block to pick up a mirror and some other things.

Sunday was a quiet day at home. Suchita had invited me over for dinner. So, I went over to her place in Ejupura which is about 15 minutes from my house. They have a rather nice house and you can quickly understand that the house is occupied by girls!

Dinner was good home cooked chicken biryani. I hung around at her place for a while before heading back home.

The rest of the week was extremely tiring and I did quite a few late nights. This was also because I was to go on leave at the end of the week. This weekend we had a training cum outing. People sure are shocked to here that yours truly played volley ball and kho kho We returned to Bangalore on Sunday evening, when I picked up a new suitcase for my journey back to Mumbai.

I was able to secure tickets from Go Air for just Rs. 3,000/- for the return journey, which was part of their promo! The flight turned out to be very comfortable and I got plenty of leg space, which was very lucky since the there aren't that many seats with sufficient leg room.

The journey to the airport was very pleasant. I was a bit worried of getting there in time, but the airlift driver ensured that this happened. The flight took off on time and I reached Mumbai before 3.30pm.

I'll update this blog again with what I have been up to for the past two days.

Meebo Me plugin now on WordPress Extend

I have uploaded yet another plugin on WordPress Extend. This one is another ancient plugin that allows you to display your chat widget from meebo me. meebo me lets you chat with your site visitors using your Meebo account.

Visitors on your blog can hit a simple button and chat with you when you are logged into meebo. This is an easy and free way to interact with your visitors.

While meebo me works with every website, this plugin makes integration with WordPress extremely simple.

Transpose Email now on WordPress Extend

I have uploaded my lesser known email spam fighting plugin Transpose Email to WordPress Extend. So, now you can download and install and update the plugin from within WordPress Admin area itself.

Actually, the plugin has been lying neglected in the repository for several years now, before the directory even existed! However, it definitely wasn't in usable form. I've rearranged the files and deleted the useless ones and the download is perfectly ready now.

Transpose Email plugin allows you to use JavaScript to create an encoded link. Clicking that link will trigger the user's email client to open and create an email.

Three weeks back

One thing I love about where I work is that I don't need to wait six months before I can take leave. This is usually a requirement of most companies. Out here, I've planned my leave well in advance, the first one begins today, for a week.

This blog post will take you three weeks back. I've had three weeks which have been so filled with work (yes, that is a usual statement I make) that my initial plan of updating the blog took a back seat.

Anyway, three weeks back, I met up with Maria, who, along with her sister, has been complaining that I've spent more than two months in Bangalore and hadn't even seen them! The main reason has been my prolonged effort to settle into the city that I haven't yet called home and the lack of a full weekend out here yet. I haven't seen much of Bangalore yet and I don't know when I will be able to. The few places that I have visited have been Church Street and Brigade Road area on two separate occasions.

Maria picked me up from near my house in Koramangala on that Sunday morning and we headed over to “The Only Place” in Brigade Road. “The Only Place” is famous for its steak and I decided to try one of those. Well, it was also a while since I had some good meat. We then walked down Church Street to the Levi's store at Brigade Road. My current pair of blue jeans had started to fray and rather than make a fashion statement, I decided to pick up a new pair.

From what I have seen, shopping in Bangalore seems to be more expensive than Mumbai. I'm going to verify this on my trip back to Mumbai as I hunt for some clothes. Anyway, I found a decent pair of blue boot-cut jeans for a little more than 2K and picked them up. It turned out to be a smart thing to do because my jeans finally frayed and well, they are now a pair of torn jeans that many people pay so much extra for!

After this, we walked over to one of the Cafe Coffee Day's in Brigade Road, where they insisted that we have to take addons on Saturday and Sunday. I have definitely not seen this at any other CCD and we told him that we refused to do that. Why should I take chocolate sauce in my coffee, when I don't want it?

We didn't spend much time there, because we decided to drop into Garuda mall for a while, which is supposed to be one of the biggest malls in Bangalore. Well, I still prefer InOrbit in Mumbai, which is not only bigger, but definitely better planned than any of the malls here in Bangalore.

Anyway, I decided to go window shopping for suits. Saw some excellent ones which were 7K and above. Decided to check the same out in Mumbai over this week. I need a good business suit for work. The one we got in college was good for college and the one I got at home is too party types.

We hung out at Garuda mall a while and after that tried to find out the mass timings at the nearest church out there. We found out that we had to wait for at least an hour for mass and so decided to rush back to the one near Forum. It turned out to be a mixed language double-feast mass where we found ourselves standing far far away in the dust and the dirt and the crowd. We just gave up hope and headed back home.

1. He talked with His hands

3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do.

Better Search bug-fix release

I've just committed v1.1.5 of Better Search to the repository. Both 1.1.4 and 1.1.5 fixes two tiny bugs in the functioning of the plugin. Thanks to Thaya and vikingjs suggesting the two fixes.

I still have a number of major modifications that I would like done to this plugin, but sadly, I haven't found a good amount of time to sit and do them. vikinjs has also made a few changes to the plugin which you may like to try out.

Again, I'm looking for a guide on programming a callback function. If anyone has done this or knows how to or where I can find out how, do post below or email me.

I’m alive!

When someone decides to message you all of a sudden and grumble that you are not blogging, then it is an indication that it has been a while. Well, I know it has, considering the last post was a month back. However, my life is so full of work, that I honestly, don't have much to blog about.

Anyway, as an update, I have been working long hours all through the week and the concept of weekend is a blur. e.g. I worked till 1.30am on both Thursday and Friday! Weekends that do come along are spent with me resting all day long.

Well, that's life of an investment banker. I knew the hours would be long, but didn't expect it to be this long. Normally, this would have been a problem, if I wasn't enjoying the work so much, I would definitely have hated it!

Talking about investment banking, as of yesterday, I completed two whole months as an investment banker! I know these two months have been simply amazing. The learning curve has been very steep, but I think I'm doing just fine.

What about my plugins, blogging and the rest of the world of IT? Well, it is there. I did put in a few posts at Techtites a while back when I had a full two days. Otherwise, Umar has been doing a good job so far. And, Shahrzaad's occasional posts have been helpful in keeping the blog alive.

As for the plugins, sadly, they require a dedicated amount of time which hasn't been a luxury I can afford. However, I have tried my best to support the same in the forums.

I am taking leave at the end of this month, as a break and also to take a trip back home. Hopefully, I should have the time to get in some coding as well!

Bug Fix release for Where did they go from here

For users of my WordPress plugin Where did they go from here, who have installed it on subdirectories and have found that it doesn't track visits; this bug should now be squashed.

A big thanks to Chris who reported and spent several hours, across a several day period (because of my day job), testing out various fixes I could send across.
